Bishops' Bench

Inspiring democracy

Did you know that bishops actively take part in parliamentary business as members of the House of Lords?

Euthanasia, Iraq, prison reform, freedom of religious practice: these are just a fraction of the vital subjects to which bishops bring special care, thought and expertise. Bringing the experience of a lifetime in ministry, and regularly pushing the case for the marginalised and vulnerable in our society - in addition to leading prayers every time the House sits - the bishops play a full role in the House.

Cindy Kent talks to the Church of England's Duty Bishop every week to discuss the important issues coming up for debate and decision in Parliament; you can listen on demand here via the web.
