About the voice you hear
Sister Janet was born and raised in Liverpool.
In 1973 she embarked on her journey of becoming a Sister, joining the Franciscan Missionary of the Divine Motherhood.
She spent much of her time in Nigeria teaching and nursing people there.
In the 80’s she upped sticks and went to Australia to teach graphics, literature, science, chemistry and RE. But after 5 years she felt called back to Africa.
It was in Zambia that she first tried her hand at radio, setting up and running Yatsani Radio, the Catholic radio station for the Lusaka archdiocese.
Sister Janet later moved on to become a broadcaster and presenter on Vatican Radio.
On Vatican Radio Sister Janet conducted more than 100 live commentaries in English for radio-tv broadcasts of papal ceremonies, including 11 of the 19 associated with the death of Pope John Paul II, the Conclave, election and installation of Pope Benedict XVI! She also ran a daily devotions blog – one busy lady!
In January 2008, she took on the role of the Communications Coordinator for Missio, the Catholic Church’s official ongoing support organisation for Church in the developing world. This involves a great deal of writing for the Catholic media, trying to nurture a sense of mission awareness and support.
